Nitronic 40 hasexhibits good corrosion resistance to a variety of media. Pitting resistance, as measured by tests in 10% FeCl3 solution, is better than Type 404. In sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, NITRONIC 40 Stainless Steel is much better than Types 409 and 410

Nitronic 40 should be stress-relieved at temperatures below 705°C (1300°F). However, stress relieving of this steel below (900 to 1250°F) would affect the mechanical properties of the steel.

Nitronic 40 is difficult to machine due to its high work hardening rate. Hence, ample cutting fluids, positive feeds and slow speeds are preferred to overcome work hardening
