We forge SUS316L (UNS S31603 / EN 1.4404 / ASTM A182 F316L) to customer drawings at our factory in Jiangyin, China. Material is melted EAF + VOD + ESR, every piece is UT tested, and we certify to EN10204 3.1 or 3.2.

## About SUS316L

SUS316L is the JIS name for low carbon 316 stainless steel. Carbon is held to 0.03% max, so weld areas stay resistant to intergranular corrosion without post-weld annealing. The 2-3% molybdenum gives better pitting resistance than 304 in chloride and acid service. It is austenitic and cannot be hardened by heat treatment.

## Melting, Heat Treatment and Testing

- Melting: EAF + VOD + ESR
- Solution annealing: 1010-1120 °C, fast cool in air or water. Final anneal above 1070 °C for best corrosion resistance.
- Stress relieving: 200-400 °C, air cool.
- UT: EN10228-3, SEP1921 or ASTM A388.
- Certificates: EN10204 3.1, or 3.2 with third party inspection.

## FAQ

**What is SUS316L equivalent to?**
AISI 316L / UNS S31603, EN 1.4404 (X2CrNiMo17-12-2), and ASTM A182 F316L for forgings.

**SUS316 or SUS316L?**
316L has 0.03% max carbon. Less carbide forms at grain boundaries during welding, so welded parts hold up better against intergranular corrosion. If the part will be welded, 316L is the usual choice.

**How do you heat treat SUS316L forgings?**
Solution anneal at 1010-1120 °C, then fast cool in air or water. Final anneal above 1070 °C for best corrosion resistance. Stress relieving is 200-400 °C, air cool.

**What certificates do you supply?**
EN10204 3.1, or EN10204 3.2 with a third party inspector. All forgings are UT tested to EN10228-3, SEP1921 or ASTM A388.
